Prepare yourself for so many processing cores and 48GB of RAM.

Apple is getting ready to equip everything, including new iPads and Macs, with the company’s next-generation Apple Silicon chips. What is known about the impending MacBook Pro M3 is listed below.

When will the MacBook Pro M3 be released?

The MacBook Pro M3 won’t be available until around 2024. Apple has already shipped M2 Macs this year, while the M3 chip is still being developed (and, technically, is still a rumour). Mark Gurman of Bloomberg states as much, although he doesn’t elaborate.

He believes we could see entry-level alternatives as early as October 2023, but he believes even more potent M3 chips (Pro, Ultra, Max, etc.) would be available the following year. The MacBook Pro will be driven by these more expensive options.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, four new MacBook models equipped with M3-series CPUs are scheduled to go on sale in 2019.

Gurman stated in his most recent “Power On” email that the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M3 Pro and M3 Max CPUs have now passed design validation testing (DVT), indicating that mass production of the products is soon to begin. He thinks that the new computers are expected to debut between early 2024 and the spring, which would roughly coincide with the release dates of the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro versions earlier this year.

Engineering verification testing (EVT), an earlier stage of production testing on prototype devices, is also reportedly complete for new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models featuring the M3 chip. According to Gurman, this puts the release of the next-generation MacBook Airs on track for sometime in the spring or summer of 2019, which might potentially coincide with the release dates of the current models, which occurred at WWDC in June 2022 and 2023.

However, if the M3 Ultra, Pro, or Max ends up powering the new line of MacBook Pros, the price will reflect that. We haven’t heard any price rumours. Starting at $1,999, the current M2 Pro and Max MacBooks are a reasonable minimum to expect. Storage and RAM upgrades will increase the cost (see below).

Gurman lists a few potential specifications for the M3 chips.

He claims that the M3 Max has 40 graphics cores and 16 processor cores, of which 12 are for performance and 4 are for efficiency.

The Ultra version would feature up to twice as many of each, according to MacRumors. The breakdown is as follows:

Chip     CPU  cores     GPU cores
M3     8(4 perf./4 eff.)     10
M3 Pro     12 or 14(6-8 perf./6 eff.)     18 or  20
M3 Max     16(12 perf./4 eff.)     32 or 40
M3 Ultra     32(24 perf./8 eff.)     64 or 80

The 13-inch MacBook Pro will probably be run by the base M3, while the 14- and 16-inch models will use the more potent M3s.

Even while current versions can have up to 96GB of RAM, it’s been claimed that Apple is also testing devices with 48GB of RAM, which wouldn’t be a significant upgrade. However, Apple doesn’t currently offer this option.

Conclusion

Apple is set to introduce the MacBook Pro M3 in 2024, featuring the next generation of Apple Silicon Chips. The M3 chip is still under development and is expected to be released between early 2024 and spring 2024. Four new MacBook models with M3-series chips are on schedule for launch, with 14- and 16-inch models featuring the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips reaching design validation testing (DVT). The next-generation MacBook Airs are also expected to launch between the spring and summer of next year.

Price rumours have not been heard, but if the M3 Ultra, Pro, or Max power the new line of MacBook Pros, the price will reflect that. The base M3 will likely run the 13-inch MacBook Pro, with more powerful models going into larger screen sizes. Apple is also testing devices with 48GB of RAM, which would not be a bump but is not currently offered.

FAQS

Is Apple releasing a new MacBook in 2024?

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, four new MacBook models equipped with M3-series CPUs are scheduled to go on sale in 2019.

What can we expect from the 2024 MacBook Pro?

Given that the MacBook Pros underwent a redesign in 2021, no significant modifications are anticipated for the 2024 models. These laptops should be more powerful and energy-efficient than the already outstanding M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pros, thanks to the Apple M3 chip that powers them.

What will be in the new MacBook Pro in 2023?

In January 2023, Apple completely redesigned the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, adding the newest M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs, more memory, a longer battery life, HDMI 2.1 support for 8K displays, faster Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 support.

Is the MacBook Pro worth it in 2023?

One of the top workplace laptops available is the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (2023). It distinguishes itself thanks to its great design, superior functionality, extended battery life, and all-around user experience. Due to the fact that most parts are soldered to the motherboard, it is also one of the least user-upgradeable laptops.
